Kendo is derived form the Japanese feudal art of swordsmanship. Its traditions span close to 1500 years. The techniques and training methods of kendo have been handed down from one gbeneration to the next and today it is and exhilarating sport for both men and women. Kendo has been called the spriritual of the matial arts; its training puts great emphasis on the development of strength of body and spirit as well as confidence, hand eye coordination, and fluidity of both motion and thought.
Kendo places a strong emphasis on etiquette, discipline, personal development and perfection of technique. The first part of Kendo training involves footwork and simple, single movement strikes and swings of the sword. Emphasis is placed on control and accuracy. |
